“The Son of Neptune” giveaway!

Look at what the fine folks from the National Book Store sent my way! Inside those 10 plastic bags are “The Son of Neptune” gift packs which I’m tasked to give away to all of you guys! Or at least to 10 of you guys!

What are you guys going to get? You guys get that poster over there on the right, which has activities you can work on the reverse side.Β Aside from that, you also get a set of six character cards and a button pin.

How do you go about winning these gift packs? I asked friends about how to go about it, and one of the great ideas that was pitched to me was to ask you guys to pick between the Greek and Roman half-blood camps and reason out why your choice is the best one. Wittiest answers win!

I also thought about asking you guys to link me to “Percy Jackson” fanfiction, with the 10 best recommendations getting the gift packs.

But then I thought, eff it, that’s too much work to ask of you guys. So I took a cue from my friend Blooey’s blog and decided to have you guys just comment on this post for a chance to win these 10 gift packs!

Here’s the contest mechanics:

  1. Leave a comment on this post to qualify for the giveaway. One entry per person please!Β
  2. I will be accepting entries until midnight of October 31.
  3. Just like Blooey, I will be utilizing Random.orgΒ to pick out the ten winners for this contest.
  4. I will email the winners as to how they can pick up the prizes.
  5. Lastly, this contest is only open to residents of the Philippines. Can’t afford overseas shipping y’all!

Here’s the trading cards and the button pin that are part of the gift packs:

If you guys still don’t have a copy of “The Son of Neptune”, pick one up at the National Book Store nearest you. Only P395!

Good luck to everyone!

  1. i’d rather go for greek camp. i have been a fan of greek myth as compared to roman myth, though both may be similar in some aspects. greek tends to be more romantic as compared to the highly political and war aggression that is roman myth. and, this may sound fickle, but the names of greek gods, the supposed father/mother of demi gods (such as myself to qualify the question) sounds a lot cooler than those of roman.

    1. Hi Angela!

Got your entry! I just want to make clear though that I’m giving away gift packs and not the actual book itself. πŸ™‚

  2. Comment! Comment! Comment!!! Haha!

Have always been biased toward the Roman Camp even before the book came out, mainly because of my love of Latin. Also, their love of discipline is admirable. From what we’ve seen so far, though, the spirit of family is evoked by Camp Half-Blood more than Camp Jupiter. My answer remains the same, nonetheless.

    *waves at Ronald*

  3. I teach art history in college and one of the ways that I got them interested in learning about Greek and Roman Art (and Egyptian art too!) is by using Rick Riordan’s books as a kickoff point. ANd it worked!

Anyways I hope I win. And I hope I get a copy of Son of Neptune soon (still out of stock in all branches I visited)

  4. I would prefer Cam half blood, whos more friendly than romans. and these greek guys are more like family oriented and all unlike those war freak romans. though romans are more disipline, i felt more homely and safe with the guys from the greek camp. which i think is cool. i hope to win these gift pack from you ronald! thumbs up!

  5. I think I would most likely go for the Greek Half-Blood camp rather than the Roman version, because it is implied in the Lost Hero that the Romans were much more bloodthirsty and that the camp itself would be much more difficult to survive. I value my life, thank you very much, and the Greek half-blood camp sound a whole lot more fun. Then again, I haven’t read the Son of Neptune yet, so maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about.

I’m definitely buying my copy once I return to the Philippines from Hong Kong at the end of my sem break! XD

  6. *Is now studying Latin*

Latin’s a bit easier compared to greek, IMHO… since we use the Latin alphabet, we don’t need to memorize another set of letters X_X

    1. What would you use Latin for though, considering it’s a dead language? πŸ˜€ I can only think of High Mass and exorcisms at the moment!

    1. Thanks for pointing that out! I’ve changed it already. πŸ˜€ I’ve always preferred the Greek myths over the Roman ones, to be quite honest!

  7. A year of waiting for this next installment in The Heroes of Olympus series was definitely worth it. I have always been a big fan of Rick Riordan and his novels and this new series made me worship him more.

I just love it when mythology meets technology and here Riordan is a genius. Infusing the old and new world makes a delightful combination.

iPad app for Reaping Souls FTW!!!! hehehehe

    1. I have to be honest and say that my only exposure to Percy Jackson is through the movie. It seems like I should really check out the books!

  8. After reading son of neptune.. Yeah I finished reading it just now..
I think I’d pick Greek camp., because (1) they are sorted based on their god parent, that gave them chance to mingle with their brothers and sisters (2) they don’t follow any rules in fighting, they just fight… And (3) I don’t like the way the romans treat their Fauns.. So there u go πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks for answering the question, even if I ended up deciding to just leave it to Random.org to decide the winners. πŸ™‚ Best of luck to you!

      1. yeah, i kinda figured it out later after i read the whole post. hahaha

sorry naman… got so excited lang that i forgot that there are more than 3 paragraphs in your blog… πŸ™‚

  9. Hi!!!uhm, comment!!!! does this count already??hahahahaha. I love this series, actually anything that is related to mythology, Greeks or Romans.Rick Riordan is the best!!!:))

  10. I’ve been wanting to get a copy but I just got out of the hospital a week ago and I’m still stuck at home. I hope I win so I won’t have to make a trip to the bookstore to get one! Yay!

  11. I’d rather choose for the Greek half-blood camps. The greek Half-blood camp is more amazing and epic than the roman half-blood camp. My love for Greek myth started with Percy Jackson. Hoping to win this gift packs!

    Go Percy!

  12. Makabili nga ng book nito sa National Book Store, pero syempre gusto ko rin manalo in this giveaway πŸ™‚ hehehe

    Thanks po!!

  13. It would be such a joy to get one of these. (:
I know this isn’t required but, I would choose camp half-blood(Greek!) because when I read about these two camps I can imagine myself there! Also, I love how there are so many friendly people there who will help you grow & hone your talents to the best of your abilities. (:

  14. WOW! I would just love to win these for my lil brother. ever since percy jackson books came out, he just got a hang with them. so im hoping i would win these for him! best of lucks to everyone too!

  15. i hope this time i will win na.. this is my 5th time to join para lang manalo ng freebies ng son of neptune.. πŸ™‚

  16. I’d go for Greek camp. It is awesome.. I should know. Romans, for me, are war-like people, so I’d really go for the Greek camp. I believe that both are good, but my heart really says that I should go for the Greek camp.

  17. I’ve read the whole series up to the Lost Hero in maybe 3 weeks. Now I can’t wait for the next one. And I’ve been lucky enough to just wait for only 2 months for the Son of Neptune. To satisfy my latest fandom and keep me a bit sane until the Mark of Athena arrives, I’d really love to have this in my possession.

I’d be murdering teddy bears if I don’t.

  18. I hope I’ll win this! I’m an absolute fan of Rick Riordan and of course, Percy! :)) thanks for the chance Ron! πŸ™‚ hope randomness will be on my side πŸ™‚

  19. I wanna win the NBS Son of Neptune gift pack! πŸ™‚ That would be a very nice birthday gift! Universe, lemme have it!

  23. Roman camp! Because after I completed my years of service, I can live in the city proper without worrying about monster attacks.

    1. I haven’t really read the books so I can’t really agree or disagree. πŸ˜€ Besides, I decided against using that particular question for the contest. πŸ™‚

  24. I’d go for Camp Half-Blood… but Camp Jupiter seems nice! πŸ˜€
Anyway, hoping to win. That poster and those trading cards look awsum! πŸ˜€

  25. Ayeee! I’d like to join please, thank you. πŸ˜€

Greek camp! Camp Jupiter was too rigid. I prefer Camp Half-blood, definitely. πŸ™‚

  26. currently reading “the son of neptune” πŸ˜€

i LOVE Reyna!!- “Not very Roman at all..” ahahaha πŸ˜›

hope to have that giveaway πŸ˜€

  27. I`d still be on the Greek side. I believe it`s much more influencing. The Roman Camp is much more civilized tho, and they are free to tell anything they prefer. It`s almost complete. You could find anything you want there–house, camp, friends, without worrying. You could also stab anyone on games, as what you would really do so. But I`m more fond of Greek camp. Their warmth for newbies. I love it. And Nico`s a real Greek.
But if I was more of a brutal kid, I`d go for Roman. Strict and merciless. Gonna be a wicked badass.

  28. Hi! Please count me in i would love to win a Percy Jackson book. πŸ˜‰
    Rachel Anne Del Rosario

  29. Well, I prefer Camp Half Blood over Camp Jupiter. I’m not only basing it on the first camp which i fell in love with after Rick Riordan introduced it but also because of the reason that if i were a half blood (if), Lupa and the rest of the pack would probably have a feast with me as the main dish. They and the other kids would think I’m weak. The Roman Camp is awesome because they discipline and i like that and also their awesome fields for activities but the Greek Camp is where Capture the Flag is held which is the sport I would probably suggest the Olympics should have, but I don’t think anyone would agree. The Greek Camp because that’s where our beloved Seaweed Brain comes from and not to mention, Grover.

  30. *Comment!* =)
NBS held a contest like this before, but unfortunately, the gods and goddesses at Random. org didn’t pick me.
But now, I hope that they will finally let me win! I really want this! Really. May Fortuna bless me! πŸ™‚

  31. great hmm picking camps eeh i guess i would pick Roman camp in actually i like rome and since i was at high school i started reading myths about how rome came up to the greatest empire πŸ™‚ i hope i win this haha

  32. I would definitely rather pick the Greek Camp !
The Greek camp is more like a family and united despite of their individual differences .
They are not as harsh like the roman are πŸ™‚

Im a huge Percy Jackson Fan :)) hope I do win :)))

  33. hmm… Greek or Roman Camp?

I think I’ll pick both because they both have the advantages and disadvantages… But, loving the Greek mythology ever since I was just a child I think I love to be in the Greek camp… πŸ˜€

  34. I really hope I win this contest, because I wanted to read those but my mom told me to finish reading some of my books first before buying a new one. πŸ™‚

  35. Another action-packed sequel from Rick Riordan! Can’t even believe he’s writing more than one saga at the same time! Hoping for the 3rd book to come soon… In the meantime, hope I win here.

  36. Hi, I hope I will be lucky enough to win oneof those the Son of Neptune gift set. πŸ™‚ I really do adore Rick Riordan’s work. I hope all the Greek and Roman gods will help me win this. Haha

  37. even if the concept of camp Jupiter is brand new and quite different from the Camp Half-blood that we all love, I’d have to go with camp Jupiter because I simply adore their concept of war games, praetors, senators, demigod communities and a whole new set of mystifying Roman creatures and characters not to mention the ridiculous and ancient spirits that roam its grounds and their cool temples. plus, their way of seeing the future by hacking stuffed animals is totally wicked!

  38. I love Percy Jackson. πŸ˜€ Although I’m not finish with the book yet; I still need to find some time to read. Anyway, I hope I win! πŸ™‚

  39. Hello! I pretty much prefer Camp Half-Blood over Camp Jupiter. Why? It’s because I like Percy over Jason, and, I grew up knowing Greek mythology more than Roman mythology ( I even try to learn Greek language) . So, I go with the Greeks!

  40. Ooooh, son of neptune! I love reading Rick Riordan’s books. I haven’t had time to buy a copy yet but looking forward to reading the latest. πŸ™‚

    Nice giveaway!
