My Life in Books: At the “No Love Allowed” Launch

KATE EVANGELISTA being interviewed by Mina Esguerra during the No Love Allowed book launch.

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, Kate Evangelista has been a longtime fixture on this blog. Over the years, I’ve interviewed her, reviewed her books, and even had lunch with her. She’s a nice lady, who you can’t help but feel happy for when she gets nice things.

And one of the nice things to happen to her recently was the launch for her newest book, No Love Allowed. Published by Swoon Reads – a Macmillan publishing imprint – No Love Allowed tells the story of Didi and Caleb and serves as a sort of prequel to No Holding Back, which I reviewed recently.

Here’s the book’s blurb!

Caleb desperately needs a fake girlfriend. Either he attends a series of parties for his father’s law firm with a pretty girl on his arm, or he gets shipped off to Yale to start a future he’s not ready for and isn’t sure he wants. And sadly, the last unattached girl in his social circle has just made the grievous mistake of falling in love with him. Fortunately, Didi, recently fired waitress and aspiring painter, is open to new experiences. As the summer ticks by in a whirl of lavish parties, there’s only one rule: They must not fall in love!

Book review: Kate Evangelista’s “No Holding Back”

If you’ve been following this blog for as long as it’s been around – five years now? – you’d know that this blog has been an early supporter of Filipino author Kate Evangelista.  I featured her as far back as 2012, when she only had Taste out in stores. Then, I featured her twice in 2014: one was an interview, while the other was a review of Savor

She hasn’t stopped putting out books since then, and her most recent offering, set to be out in the wild on October 18 this year, is an M/M romance entitled No Holding Back. I was fortunate enough to be provided an ARC by Kate herself, and I’m more than happy to share my thoughts on the book under the cut!

Book review: Kate Evangelista’s “Savor”

Kate Evangelista has certainly gone a long way from her days as a debut author. After “Taste”, she came out with even more books, such as the paranormal romances “Reaping Me Softly,” “Unreap My Heart,” “Til Death,” and new adult novel “Romancing the Bookworm”. She’s even set to make her debut on local bookstore shelves this year, as Macmillan publishes “Til Death”.

Evangelista’s latest book with Crescent Moon Press, the same publisher that put out “Taste”, is also available on Amazon, and I was given a review copy of the book. How much has Evangelista’s work changed since she first debuted two years ago?

Welcome 2013!

Happy New Year everyone!

2012 was a great year for me. Thanks to National Book Store, I was able to interview authors like Lauren Oliver, Alyson Noel, Jennifer Hillier, Alex Gilvarry, Gregg Olsen, and Merwin Ignacio and Ian Sta. Maria.

From interviewing Samantha Sotto last year, this year I got to talk to Kate Evangelista, another Filipino who’s making her own path in the international publishing scene.

And on the book reading front, I’ve managed to finish my 2012 Goodreads Reading Challenge! I set a 50 book goal for myself at the beginning of the year, and I managed to finish 53!

So what do I plan to do this new year?

Ronreads interview: Kate Evangelista

If you haven’t done so already, the story that I did on Kate Evagelista came out yesterday on the paper that I work for. It outlines the journey she had to publication, and some advice she’d like to share with other young writers looking to break into the scene internationally.

But just like a lot of the interviews that I do, there’s also quite a bit that doesn’t make it onto the printed page — damned space constraits! So here’s the entire transcript of that interview, with all the other parts left in!

(Warning for spoilers!)
